Are You Relaxed Enough To Lose Weight?

You are doing all of the right things and you are stuck in a plateau, ugh!  You are watching what you eat, you are exercising and burning calories and yet you can’t seem to break through.  What gives??

The invisible phenomenon called STRESS might be to blame.

If you feel stressed, it makes it really really hard to lose that belly weight.

You are still a cave woman and when your body gets the signal that times are tough, it is going to store fat to help you survive.  Read on to see how stress is impacting your health goals and keeping that muffin top around.

Understanding The Stress Connection: it can be both emotional and physically. We know that being really stressed out isn’t good for us. It suppresses our immune system making it easier to get sick and it makes us age faster than normal.

But did you know even low grade stressors like not sleeping enough, skipping meals, working long hours, over exercising and taking care of everyone else but yourself creates a series of physiological symptoms in your body?

Your main stress hormone is CORTISOL released by your adrenal glands.

Chronic stress leads to high cortisol making us craves carbs and store fat around our waist ruining our weight loss efforts.

Stress and anxiety also disrupts our balance of good gut flora– your microbiome. Resulting in gas and bloating. No fun.

Then if your adrenal glands have to keep producing the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline without a break to recover, this can lead to adrenal gland fatigue and sever exhaustion sets in.

With the demands of our fast paced life, no wonder so many of us feel fat and tired.  This is a very scary point to reach as it takes a very long time to heal your body from this sort of burn out.

The solution- learn how to manage your stress better by practicing relaxation techniques.

Spend at least 30 minutes each day on yourself.

This can be exercising, meditation, reading, etc.  Start to incorporate being more mindful of your stress level to tell the ancient hard wiring of your brain that things are ok.  Life is good.  You got this!
